Georgia Southern University is a public, coeducational research university located in Statesboro, which is the county seat and the most populated city of Bulloch County, situated in the US state of Georgia, having a population estimated at a number of more than 27 000 inhabitants, during the 2008 census.

Georgia Southern University was founded in 1908, as the First District Agricultural & Mechanical School, its mission and name being changed in 1924, to Georgia Normal School, transforming into a training ground for educators. The Eagles are best known for their achievements in football, in which they won a total of six NCAA Division I-AA national championships – in '85, '86, '89, '90, '99 and 2000 – and baseball, having 2 appearances in the College World Series – in '73 and '90.
